Keep Me Running

I’m back. Again. And with my return I bring news of a personal triumph. Almost 6 months ago I posted about the fact I was going to be running the London Marathon. Well, I can thankfully and positively report that I FINISHED THE LONDON MARATHON. WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!!!!!

It was tough. It was rough. And I thought I’d lost a toenail (which, in fact, I didn’t). But I bloody well got to the end in 6 hours and 39 minutes (4 minutes of that was a pee stop – no, not peeing for 4 minutes but waiting for the queue to decrease and peeing). And I’m proud. Proud that I finished. Proud that I turned up. And proud that I have raised almost £2,000 for the mental health charity, Mind – my just giving page is still open too so please donate if you can to this amazing cause!

I’ve got one more “race” next weekend, the Run Hackney Half Marathon, and then I’m having a little tiny race break, but definitely not having a break from running. One thing I’ve got from all of this is that I’ve now managed to LOVE running. I’m not filled with dread before a run. I want to go out and enjoy myself, just putting some music or a podcast on and then running and walking off into whatever direction I decide to go. It’s amazing. And I’m going to be starting sessions with a Personal Trainer as well at the end of May/start of June, which I am MEGA EXCITED ABOUT. This is my Fit Year. I have focus and I have determination and I want to win and succeed. I want to be the best I can be. And this girl bloody well can.

I’ve got quite a few things to look forward to this year so I’m not sure where this blog will take me, but it’ll follow me through the journey I take and the path that leads me. I just hope it’s interesting enough for people to keep reading it!

Filling the blank space that has been here with a few little snippets of things that have been happening over the last few months.Knitting, running, presents and cards seem to be the flavours of my life. And trying to read more…..I’ll let you know how I get on in the future with that one (read: currently failing but trying!!)

And yes, that is an engagement ring.

Everybody’s On The Run

In terms of all of us who made it onto the London Marathon team for mental health charity, Mind, anyway.

Yup, that’s right. On April 26th 2015, I will be running 26.2 miles (or 42.2km for those of us who like metric). Can’t quite tell you if I’ll be running all 26.2 of those miles HOWEVER I still have 154 days to train hard enough that I don’t injure myself and long enough that I increase my pace and can get to my target of finishing and finishing the race in a time of 5-5.5 hours.

I’ve done a 10k. I’ve done a half marathon. And I can do a marathon. To get there will require dedication (I’ve already got myself a gym membership that I get up at 5am to use and am doing Pilates). It will require hard work. And potentially lost toenails, ugly crying and many, MANY blisters. But I know I can do it. And with the help of those around me, who will come running with me, those who donate money to Mind for my cause, and even those who tell me I can’t do it as good reverse psychology to get me out running on the cold winter’s day, I will finish. The race that is. Not myself.

So join me for this bloody minded journey I’ve managed to sign myself up to. And whilst you’re at it, support me at the following places:

OR text JPOK50 followed by your donation £?? – you choose the amount, to 70070.

And join me next week for my weekly marathon training update!!

Tonight, You Belong To Me

(Link to the original here.)

Stumbled across this little gem the other night on Faceache and have become a little obsessed with it. My ovaries are popping out eggs like nobodies business. IT’S JUST SO FUCKING CUTE!!

Okay, I’ll calm down now. And this weekend I need to re-focus on my half-marathon training. It’s in about 8 weeks, I’m gonna be royally screwed if I don’t knuckle down and get my time under 3 hours (I will not be picked up by the sweeper truck. NO.) Considering I did my 10k in 1:18, and a half marathon it just over double that, I think I’ll be fine. And I seem to do better on the day than I think I will as well – thanks, adrenaline!!

I can do it. And I will do it. And then I’ll find out if I’ve got into the London Marathon. WHAT AM I DOING TO MYSELF?!?

Anyhow, happy Friday and Bank Holiday weekend UK peeps!!

Don’t Stop Me Now

I’ve finally decided to do that most adult of things in life.

I got a houseplant.

Processed with VSCOcam with p6 preset IMG_1630

Actually, I got 3. One as a housewarming gift from my friends, Sarah and Lea (Mabel, the Orchid), and two as a gift to my black thumb to try and turn it back to green again (Fred, the Cactus and Tina, the Succulent/Echeveria).

Mabel, Fred and Tina will make recurring appearances here and my adventures in houseplant keeping will be chronicled for all to see. Well, if I can keep an animal alive, I can surely keep 3 plants alive too, right?! I have a feeling the Royal Horticultural Society website is going to become my new best friend.

Where Have You Been?

be silly be honest be kind

Sorry guys! Guess I owe those who used to read my blog an explanation. And here it is…..

Yup. No huge big announcements. I have a job. I have a girlfriend. I have a house (renting, obvs). But after basically a year’s worth of silence I finally have (again) the time and space and ability and want to blog again.

Life does just happen and you realise that soon enough, after enjoying your time away, something is missing and for me that’s blogging. So, here I am. Ready to go again. I have things that will most likely stop me from blogging from time to time but not for over a year again (she says…..).

So, see you all back on here soon for some new bits and new pieces and new words.
